INTRODUCTION
  • Who is the most famous person from your hometown or one of the schools you went to growing up?
  • What did your parents or teachers encourage you to be when you grew up that didn’t end up happening?

From the very youngest age we are taught to dream.  We dream of what could be happening, and even more excitingly, what will happen in the future.  What we will do and what we will become dance with anticipation through our minds.  God never desires for that to stop.  When we combine our skills, our time, our sphere of influence, and our very lives with a God who loves doing the impossible, we are able to dream even more.

HAVE A VOLUNTEER READ  Colossians 3:1-11
  • How does one put to death the things that used to make up who they were before Jesus?
  • Which thing mentioned here do you struggle with (or have you struggled with) putting to death most?

Death, in this context, isn’t something to evoke dread and fear.  Death, in this passage, is hope.  It is God giving us hope that if we allow our past (or current) stumbling blocks to become dead to us and let go of them as such, God can bring a completely new life to where we were only able to bring ugliness and regret.  May we never hold onto that which is dead, but instead affirm it’s lifeless state and take hold of hope.

HAVE A VOLUNTEER READ  Colossians 3:12-17
  • Which of the qualities mentioned here are you most desiring to grow in this year?
  • What do you believe God wants to use you to accomplish in your future?

Love, compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, patience, forgiveness, unity, gratefulness… HOPE!  As God adds these amazing qualities to the new life we have through Jesus, we have hope.  He is able to do exceedingly and abundantly more than we can ask, think, or imagine - in our lives and the lives of our loved ones.

APPLICATION
  • What is one practical step you can take to embrace God’s desire for your future?
  • Who is someone you are going to trust to hold you accountable for taking steps toward becoming the man or woman God has created you to be?

PRAYER
Pray that God would give you a vivid vision of the person He is making you into.
