  • What was one takeaway from this week's sermon for you?
  • Were there any stories, ideas, or points that stuck out?
  • Was there anything that challenged you?

INTRODUCTION
  • Who is your best friend and why have they earned that title?  NOTE: if you’re married, your spouse doesn’t count… but should’ve been your first response!  :)
  • Between you and your bestie, what have you done over the years to earn the title of being their best friend?

In 1972, Bill Withers wrote a song that has become iconic in our culture…
“Lean on me when you’re not strong and I’ll be your friend. I’ll help you carry on.  For It won’t be long ‘til I’m gonna need somebody to lean on.”
The essence of friendship is exactly that… allowing another individual to help carry the weight of your responsibilities, injuries, emotions… life!  Few things are more precious in life than having a true friend, and few life skills are more important than learning to be a good friend.

HAVE A VOLUNTEER READ  Matthew 7:21-23
On a scale of 1 to 10 (1 = completely comfortable, 10 = TERRIFIED), how does this verse make you feel and why?
How do you know that you have a relationship with Jesus that has started here and will last into eternity?

Apprehension is natural… not healthy… but natural.  We are called to keep our eyes on the prize.  The prize is Jesus.  The relationship is with Jesus.  The enjoyment and fulfillment of life is with… Jesus!  How much more beneficial to focus on enjoying our time entangled in grace and love with Jesus rather than worrying about earning the right to be in the presence of the one who has already extended his hand of love, friendship and sacrifice?

HAVE A VOLUNTEER READ  Romans 10:13-15
  • Whose responsibility is it to make sure “they” hear the “good news” and how well is this responsibility being satisfied in your sphere of influence?
  • What is the most powerful or memorable way that the good news was brought to your ears over the years?

To understand the grace of God is to begin to walk with Him.  One cannot walk with Him without staying in step with Him and beginning to intuitively learn from Him.  Can we say that we are walking with and learning from Jesus if we are not instinctively looking to, ministering to, and preaching to those not yet enjoying this grace-filled walk?  No, we cannot.  Therefore, keep your head on the swivel looking for the divine appointments to bring the good news of Jesus!

APPLICATION
  • What is one way you can better participate in your friendship with Jesus this week?
  • Who in your life needs to hear the good news this week and how are you going to bring it?

PRAYER
Pray that God would invite you into an even deeper friendship with Jesus and open your eyes to those around you who need this friendship with Jesus.
