  • What was one takeaway from this week's sermon for you?
  • Were there any stories, ideas, or points that stuck out?
  • Was there anything that challenged you?

INTRODUCTION

  • If you could instantly develop one new habit that would make your life better, what would it be?
  • What’s one thing you care deeply about (something that always moves you to take action)?

Our hearts are constantly being shaped by what we love and value. Before Christ, our focus tends to be on ourselves: our comfort, our goals, our image. But God’s Spirit flips that. He gives us a new identity and a new mission. Following Him means learning to care about the things that matter most to Him: people, purpose, and eternity.

UNDERSTANDING

HAVE A VOLUNTEER READ LUKE 5:31–32 AND LUKE 19:10.

  • What does Jesus reveal about His mission in these verses?
  • How do these passages challenge the way we view “church people” and “lost people”?
  • Why is it easy to lose sight of this mission in everyday life?

When Jesus walked the earth, His heart was always drawn to the hurting, the outcast, and the lost. If His Spirit lives in us, our hearts will be drawn to the same. But compassion alone isn’t enough. It must move us to action!

HAVE A VOLUNTEER READ MATTHEW 25:34–40.

  • What do these verses teach us about how God defines true compassion?
  • What’s one simple way someone can live this out in your community?
  • Why do you think Jesus identifies Himself with “the least of these”?

Caring changes everything, but caring must be more than a feeling. God calls His people to do something about the pain and need they see. When we act out of love, we become living evidence of God’s presence in the world.

HAVE A VOLUNTEER READ ACTS 4:18–20.

  • What stands out to you about Peter and John’s response to persecution?
  • Why do you think they couldn’t “help speaking about what they had seen and heard”?
  • How can we develop that kind of boldness in our own lives?

When God truly changes a person, they can’t stay quiet. Their life becomes a testimony. It’s not about forcing conversations, but instead, about letting what God has done in you overflow into how you treat others, how you speak, and how you serve.

HAVE A VOLUNTEER READ JAMES 2:17 AND 1 JOHN 3:18.

  • How do these verses connect faith and action?
  • What’s the difference between “good intentions” and “real compassion”?
  • What do you think it looks like for this group to be “lifesavers,” as the sermon described?

Faith without action is like a fire without heat. It might look real for a moment, but it can’t warm anyone. God doesn’t just want us to care. He wants us to move. When we act out of love, He works through us in ways we can’t imagine.

APPLICATION

  • Which of this week’s four revelations spoke most powerfully to you?
    1. We are new creations with new identities and a new purpose.
    2. God changes what we care about and what we live for.
    3. Our new lives compel us to share what was freely given to us.
    4. If we truly care, we have to do something.
  • What specific step of obedience or compassion is God asking you to take this week?
  • Who in your life might need to experience God’s love through your action?

We serve a God who jumped into the mess of the world to save us. When we love others, serve others, and share hope, we reflect His heart. The question is: What will we do about it this week?

PRAYER

Pray that God would open your eyes to the needs around you.
Ask Him to give you compassion that moves to action.
Thank Him for the privilege of being part of His rescue mission.
