  • What was one takeaway from this week's sermon for you?
  • Were there any stories, ideas, or points that stuck out?
  • Was there anything that challenged you?

INTRODUCTION

  • Who was someone that had a major influence on your life growing up and what made them influential?
  • What is one lesson from your parents or mentors that has stayed with you into adulthood?
  • When you think about your current influence on others, what is one area where you feel confident and one area you would like to grow?

Whether we have children or not, every one of us is influencing the next generation. This week’s message challenged us to think beyond simply raising children and instead ask what it means to become people who lead others spiritually, relationally, and practically toward Jesus.

UNDERSTANDING

HAVE A VOLUNTEER READ EPHESIANS 6:4

  • What words or phrases stand out to you in this passage and why?
  • What do you think it means to avoid provoking people while still providing discipline and guidance?
  • How can someone lead with both truth and tenderness?

HAVE A VOLUNTEER READ 2 THESSALONIANS 3:10

  • Why do you think Scripture places value on teaching responsibility and hard work?
  • How do we encourage growth and effort without becoming harsh or performance driven?
  • What practical life lessons should the next generation learn before adulthood?

HAVE A VOLUNTEER READ 1 CORINTHIANS 6:19–20

  • What does it mean to honor God with our bodies and our lives?
  • How does caring for ourselves impact the people we lead?
  • In what ways does personal example speak louder than words?

This message emphasized that leadership begins long before advice is given. Children, friends, family members, and those around us often learn more from our patterns than our speeches. The call was not toward perfection but intentional growth through God’s transforming work.

APPLICATION

  • Looking at the ten traits from the message, which area needs the most growth in your life right now?
  • Are there people in your life who need more of your presence rather than more of your advice?
  • How can you create environments that are emotionally safe, spiritually healthy, and full of grace?
  • Is there someone you need to apologize to or extend forgiveness toward this week?
  • What is one practical way you can become a stronger spiritual leader in your home, workplace, church, or relationships?

The message reminded us that influence is not reserved for parents. Every follower of Jesus leaves a legacy. God can redeem mistakes, build healthier patterns, and create change beginning today. It is never too late to lead differently.

PRAYER

Heavenly Father, thank You for being a patient and loving Father to us. Help us become people who influence others well. Teach us to lead with humility, grace, truth, and consistency. Strengthen our homes, relationships, and communities so that the next generation sees Jesus through our lives.
