Celebration of Life Service
Saturday, January 27 // 10:00 AM
at Medway Church
Watch the service LIVE on Saturday, Jan 27 at 10:00 AM.
Cainan Donald Craun, or Cainan Rex as he liked to refer to himself, was born on July 11, 2010, in Dayton, Ohio. Cainan was an amazing brother to Gideon Craun and son to Gina and Patrick Craun.
At the age of two, Cainan was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL). Cainan became a hero in many hearts overnight. The amount of love and joy that he held and shared with others was amazing. His story of courage and strength quickly spread among friends and loved ones.
We learned early that Cainan’s battle was going to be unique. After a bone marrow transplant, he thrived only to relapse a short 17 months later. After his relapse Cainan was given the opportunity to take part in a new, ground-breaking study where he received genetically engineered T cell immunotherapy (Cainan’s superhero cells). In July of 2017 Cainan was medically “cured” of leukemia. Cainan beat leukemia not once, but twice.
Unfortunately in August of 2017, our world was turned upside down once again when Cainan was diagnosed with grade 4 Glioblastoma Multiforme (GBM), a rare and aggressive form of a brain cancer in children. It became clear that the odds were stacked against us given Cainan’s history and the genetic information that we learned through this journey. We buckled down and continued to fight, not giving up our faith and hope in Jesus. After an aggressive surgery and targeted radiation plan, Cainan began to bounce back. Unfortunately on January 20, 2018, God called Cainan home to the biggest playground in the sky with endless LEGOs and Pokémon. Cainan fought hard, and now can ultimately rest in Jesus' arms.
We welcome you to join us for a celebration of Cainan’s life at our family’s church this Saturday, January 27. Medway Church is located at 2550 S. Dayton-Lakeview Rd, New Carlisle, OH 45344. The service will start at 10 a.m. Please dress casual and wear your Cainan shirts if you have them. This is your chance to be a kid again and celebrate his life with us.
We ask that instead of flowers, blankets, or memorial gifts, that you would purchase a new, unopened toy (Matchbox cars, plastic dinosaurs, small figures, super heroes, or craft supplies) that can be dropped off at the service and will be donated to Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Child Life. These toys will be used for children to play with during their stay at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital and their Liberty Campus.
If you would prefer to make a monetary donation, please consider: The Dragonfly Foundation, or A Kid Again. Both of these organizations provided a number of opportunities for Cainan and our family to live life to the fullest and enjoy experiences that helped Cainan look past his fight with cancer. A donation in his honor would be a blessing to our family.
