  • Were there any stories, ideas, or points that stuck out?
  • Was there anything that challenged you?

INTRODUCTION
  • Pastor Mike talked a lot about love languages this past Sunday.  What is your love language?  Reminder:  (1) Quality Time,  (2) Touch,  (3) Small Gifts,  (4) Words of Affirmation,  (5) Acts of Service
  • How have you had difficulty feeling loved that way?
  • How have you had difficulty showing love in someone else’s love language?

The Bible tells us that God is love.  If there is one defining characteristic of God that we are called to show in this world as boldly as possible, it’s love.  Sometimes showing love effectively requires strong effort, observation, and reflection.  Love languages can be a powerful tool to accomplish Jesus’s command from John 13:34.

STUDY  [tap on scripture to read]
HAVE A VOLUNTEER READ JOHN 13:34-35.
  • How does loving people like Jesus loves them look different than loving them like you would normally choose to love them?
  • How do feel most loved by God?  In other words, in what types of scenarios/situations/environments/tasks/etc. do you enjoy and experience the love of God?
  • To springboard from the previous question… based on how you feel loved by God, give a title to your “spiritual love language.”

If Jesus tells us to love one another the way He loves us, we can assume (and rightfully so) that His love for us is the pinnacle of perfection.  So obviously, He knows how to love us better than we know how to love us.  This warrants some reflection, not just on what God has done for us, but also on what He is doing for us and how He is interacting with us now.

HAVE A VOLUNTEER READ 1 CORINTHIANS 13:1-13.
  • This passage begins by mentioning a lot of good things that Christians can do which are empty if not combined with God’s love.  How have you at times fallen into doing good things absent God’s love?
  • Which part of verses 4-8 do you have the hardest time doing/living out?
  • Why is love greater than faith and hope?

God’s definition of love sets the bar pretty high for us.  It is simply impossible for us to show true love in its entirety without intimacy with God.  The two are irrefutably connected.  Every part of God’s definition of love is Him revealing to us pieces of His character.  Show true love to the world around you and you will inevitably be bringing people closer and closer to experiencing a relationship with Jesus.

APPLICATION
