INTRODUCTION
  • What is the most physically exhausted you’ve ever been?
  • What is the most emotionally and/or mentally exhausted you’ve ever been?

There’s no escaping it… we all get tired.  As most of us reflect on our life over the years, it is likely that the physical exhaustion has taken less of a toll on us than those times of emotional, mental and spiritual exhaustion.  We all can benefit immensely from God’s guidance on how to recharge effectively.  Running on empty day in and day out is simply not part of the better life God wants for us.

HAVE A VOLUNTEER READ MATTHEW 11:27-30
  • How are “finding rest” and knowing God better related?
  • How have you personally experienced this connection?
  • How is the “yoke” of Jesus different than your “yoke”?

Just as in every other area of life, finding true refreshing and rejuvenating rest hinges on intimacy with God.  The path to His better life requires walking hand in hand with Jesus.  We will never find anything in this life that God desires for us without Him being intimately involved in the process.

HAVE A VOLUNTEER READ PSALM 37:1-8
  • Based on this passage, how do you get the desires of your heart and what does that look like practically in your daily life?
  • What specifically can you do regularly to “be still before the Lord”?
  • How does “fretting” lead to evil in your experience or observation?

How amazing is it that God wants you to have the desires of your heart?!?  To accomplish this, he wants to heal and transform our hearts and teach us to desire what is beneficial to us.  Elsewhere in Scripture it says that God desires to take our heart of stone and replace it with a heart of flesh.  This world draws us to those things that make us jaded and scarred.  God is the ultimate healer… the only one who can heal us completely and rejuvenate us daily.

APPLICATION
  • What is robbing you of the physical, emotional, mental and/or spiritual rest God desires for you?
  • What is one practical thing you can add or subtract from your daily life to pursue God’s rest?

PRAYER
Pray that God will draw your attention away from the heavy and stressful things in life and place it on Him.  Pray that He will remind you daily that He has your life securely in His hands.
