INTRODUCTION
  • What is the most terrified you’ve ever been?
  • What is the most courageous action you’ve ever personally witnessed?

From birth, we log hours and hours of memories due to one emotion… fear.  We even have an entire holiday devoted to fear and the more macabre elements of our culture.  We gravitate toward that spark of emotion.  But God calls us to more, to better, to higher than a simple emotion.

HAVE A VOLUNTEER READ  JOSHUA 1:6-9
  • Why does God challenge us to be courageous?
  • Where in your life can you be a stronger & more courageous leader?

Fear is natural.  Bravery takes strength and training.  We are called to the more difficult path.  Courage is the bar set for us.  It’s not easy, but it is necessary in order to take hold of the life God has for us.

HAVE A VOLUNTEER READ  2 TIMOTHY 1:6-7
  • If you’re a Christian, how has your life changed since having the Holy Spirit in your life?
  • How would your life look different if you fully embraced the power that comes from God?  What about the love and self-discipline that comes from God?

Walking in step with the Spirit of God is a very difficult thing.  We desire the more tangible things of life that we can easily grasp in our hands, but God desires to lead us with gentle guidance that stems from intimacy with Him.  The result of this intimacy is more than worth the occasional discomfort that comes from the less tangible and sometimes abstract ways of God.

APPLICATION
  • What is one practical step you can take this week to be more courageous?
  • What is one step you can take this week to better embrace the power, love and/or self-discipline that comes from the Spirit of God?

PRAYER
Pray that God will lead you this week toward the courage, power, love and self-discipline that only He can provide.
