  • Was there anything that challenged you?

INTRODUCTION
  • The Bible says that we cause angels to celebrate when one of us puts our faith & trust in Jesus… what do we do as humans that probably makes them laugh at us?
  • What is the dumbest well-intentioned thing you’ve ever done?

Humility, wisdom, righteousness, etc. etc…. Wouldn’t it be nice if all of those came more naturally to us?  Unfortunately, God’s better life for us requires developing, growing, and actively taking hold of more than what our world typically finds value in.

STUDY  [tap on scripture to read]
HAVE A VOLUNTEER READ  ROMANS 12:1-2
  • What does it mean to “conform to the pattern of this world”?
  • Why & how does conforming inhibit our ability to know the will of God?

We can’t take hold of the life God intends for us if we can’t know His will.  We can’t know His will if we are consumed by and conformed to the pattern of this world.  This warning and challenge is at the heart of our relationship with Jesus.  Because He loves us, He calls us away from one thing so that we can fully embrace the better life.

HAVE A VOLUNTEER READ  ECCLESIASTES 7:16-18
  • Taking into account that God consistently says that righteousness and wisdom are positive traits, why are we warned about them in verse 16?
  • Based on this scripture and others you know of, what does a balanced Christian life look like to you?

Love God irrationally.  Love people biblically.  In all other things, balance!  God’s best life for us is greater than anything this world is going to offer us.  He desires to break the power of sin & folly in our lives while keeping us from getting so tied up in the good of this world that we forget that it is eternity with Him that we live for.

APPLICATION
  • Where in your life are you conforming too much to the pattern of this world?
  • Where are you embracing extremes and in danger of being out of balance as a Christian?

PRAYER
Pray that God would transform your mind so that you would avoid the patterns of this world and all of its extremes.
