  • What was one takeaway from this week's sermon for you?
  • Were there any stories, ideas, or points that stuck out?
  • Was there anything that challenged you?

INTRODUCTION
  • Were you afraid of the dark as a child?  If so, when did that fear go away (if ever)?
  • Think about art, music, film, etc..  What is the best example that comes to mind when you think of the contrast between darkness and light?

On & off… good & bad… young & old… black & white… darkness & light.  Opposite extremes create some fairly astounding imagery.  Whether that is art, debate, poetry, or prose, the best examples rest with polar opposites.  This is especially true in Scripture.  God consistently reminds us of the drastic spiritual differences between darkness and light.

HAVE A VOLUNTEER READ  EPHESIANS 4:17-24
  • What was your life like when you were “darkened” in your understanding with a “hardened” heart?
  • How is your “new self” different from your “old self”?

Isn’t it amazing that we serve a God who is not ok with us staying in the darkness?  Jesus came as the light into the darkness.  He came after us!  And now He is still at work illuminating all of the dark corners of our hearts to ensure our old selves are dead and gone… completely!

HAVE A VOLUNTEER READ  MATTHEW 5:14-16
  • How do you sometimes hide your lamp under a bowl?
  • What is the single greatest example you’ve personally witnessed or experienced of someone bringing light into a dark situation?

Basking in the light of our amazing God is so special.  But we aren’t called to just enjoy the light for ourselves but to shine that bright spotlight into every dark corner of this dark world we find.  Our dark world needs our bright light.  Be like Jesus… shine bright in a dark world!

APPLICATION
  • What is one specific way you can bring light into a dark situation this week?
  • Who are you currently working on telling about Jesus?  How’s it going so far?

PRAYER
Pray that God would draw you closer to Him and into the light this week and that He would use you to reflect His light in a new and exciting way.
