  • Were there any stories, ideas, or points that stuck out?
  • Was there anything that challenged you?

INTRODUCTION
  • Which three roles most define you?  In other words, how would you answer if asked “Who are you”?  “I am  ______, ______, and ______.”
  • To which role did you have the most difficulty adjusting when adopting that role?

If you’ve ever had the experience of watching the Disney classic “Lion King”, you may remember the importance the wise mandrill monkey, Rafiki, placed on knowing who you are.  Sometimes our identity smacks us in the face as Rafiki did to young Simba.  Other times, we ease into our roles and identity like a comfy new sweater.  Either way, knowing, accepting, and walking forward with God in who we are and who we are becoming is integral in taking hold of the life God has prepared for us.

HAVE A VOLUNTEER READ  Ephesians 6:1-4
  • What is one thing your parent(s)/guardian did extremely well when you were growing up?
  • What do you believe God thinks is most important when someone is filling the role of a parent?

One of the most important titles God gives to Himself in Scripture is “Father”.  This tells us many things - possibly the greatest of which is that the parent/child relationship is an extremely important relationship.  He models it for us and we do our best to imitate.  Whether or not we are serving in the role of biological (or legal) parent, we are all called to show God to the world with our actions. We are always leading and impacting the next generation (good or bad) with our words and actions - similar to parenthood.

HAVE A VOLUNTEER READ  Ephesians 6:5-9
  • Why do you think God includes a discussion on the roles of slaves & masters (or employees & employers) right after the discussion on the roles of parents & children?
  • Which of your current roles has the greatest room for improvement?

Power, peace, and purpose are three of the amazing gifts God bestows on us as we begin to take hold of the better life to which He calls us.  Purpose is especially vital when we view the roles with which God entrusts us.  If He trusts us to serve in that way or that role, we serve as if we are serving God directly.
