  • Was there anything that challenged you?

INTRODUCTION
  • What is a kid's story you grew up on that you have found to be much darker or less innocent now that you’re an adult?
  • If you grew up hearing Bible stories as a child, what story do you now perceive most differently as an adult?

The older we get, the more we are able to recognize and prepare for the serious and at times dark elements of our world.  It would be nice if everything stayed sunshine and roses, people never hurt, and no one was ever mean… but that’s not reality.  We serve a God that meets us in the darkness and walks with us through the deadly shadows of life.

STUDY  [tap on scripture to read]
HAVE A VOLUNTEER READ  Genesis 6:5-14  and  Genesis 6:22
  • Noah finds the favor (or grace) of God and then Noah’s life is described as righteous and blameless.  What is your story of finding and following God?
  • What is the difference between righteousness and obedience (if any)?

The world is off the rails, but God never fails.  Your world may seem dark and finding any light may seem beyond difficult, but God…
God takes hold of a man that was just as broken as the world around him, shows him grace & favor, and Noah learns to walk in righteousness and obedience.  God knew the key to saving Noah and his family, and Noah was willing to trust God to lead him.

HAVE A VOLUNTEER READ  Genesis 9:18-23
  • After being described as “finding favor”, being “righteous and blameless” and “doing everything just as God commanded”, Noah has a really bad day.  What is a time in your life when you can relate to Noah?
  • How does God pick you back up when you fail spiritually?

Repenting well is an absolute necessity for spiritual growth.  We will stumble and at times we may completely fall, but God knew that when He called us and showed us grace.  That grace covers a multitude of sins, but our response to grace is paramount!  Our response is to embrace righteousness, walk in obedience, AND repent well.

APPLICATION
  • What is something big you are (or can be) praying for God to do in your life this week/month/season?
  • What area do you struggle with that your small group can be praying for you?

PRAYER
Pray that God would show you His grace each day, lead you toward righteousness and challenge you to be obedient in the small and large things of life.
