  • Were there any stories, ideas, or points that stuck out?
  • Was there anything that challenged you?

INTRODUCTION
  • What is a time someone surprised you by doing something unexpectedly nice for you?
  • What is the nicest thing another person has ever done for you?

Everyone would agree that surprising acts of kindness are a remarkable thing.  It makes us feel noticed and cared for when someone does something good for us unexpectedly and with no strings attached.  God (especially Jesus) models this for us throughout Scripture by means of grace - unmerited favor.

HAVE A VOLUNTEER READ  Luke 7:36-50
  • Don’t take the easy way out and skip to the next question… What did Simon the Pharisee do RIGHT in this story?
  • How do you hope you would act differently if you were the Pharisee in this story?

Fewer more convicting words could be spoken than “Do you see her?”.  It is easy to ignore and write off certain people who display certain behaviors or lifestyles that we find particularly bothersome or wrong.  People’s actions never give us permission to devalue them.  No matter how dark a person’s life, God still created them in His image and sent Jesus to die for them.  He loves them!

HAVE A VOLUNTEER READ  Matthew 6:9-13
  • What does it look like for God’s Kingdom to be seen in our world?
  • In your opinion, what is the single greatest way Jesus followers can live out “Your Kingdom come”?

There is most likely not a better-known prayer than this one.  It is repeated aloud by millions each week and has been for centuries.  The familiarity of it creates the risk of glossing over the depth of each statement being prayed.  This is especially true with “Your Kingdom come”.  In this statement, God is calling each of us to the mission of tearing holes in the dark covering over our world to shine His light into every dark place around us.

APPLICATION
  • What is one specific thing you can do this week to shine light into the dark world around you?
  • Who are you around regularly who probably could benefit from feeling like you see them and God sees them?

PRAYER
Pray that God would open your eyes to those around you who need to know that God is paying attention to them.
