INTRODUCTION
We all experience fear. Some fear is logical and warranted. Some fear is irrational and emotional. Knowing the difference can be difficult at times. That is why God calls us to a life of faith over fear. We trust God to keep us safe and warn us if caution is warranted. He also calls us to fellowship with other followers of Jesus so that as a unified community, we can strengthen our faith and diminish our fear as one body.

HAVE A VOLUNTEER READ John 17:13-19
This world can be a scary place. Jesus talks about a world that hates him and us and an evil one from whom we need God’s protection… scary! In 1 John 4:18 it says that perfect love drives out fear. This is how we can effectively and bravely navigate a world of which we don’t belong until God calls us home for eternity.
HAVE A VOLUNTEER READ John 17:20-23
How cool is it that Jesus thought about us all of these years later and what we would need?? And what he wanted us to have was each other. He knew that unity among believers and humanity, in general, was part of the better way of doing life that he calls us to. We’re not in this thing alone! We have God and God wants us to also have one another to weather all of the scary stuff life throws at us.
APPLICATION
PRAYER
Pray that God would remind you this week of the perfect love that casts out all fear and challenge you to show it to everyone you come in contact with.

- Since Halloween was last week… What types of scary movies/stories scare you the most (i.e. monsters, aliens, ghosts/spirits, slasher, etc.)?
- What was an irrational fear you had as a kid and at what age did it go away?
