INTRODUCTION
  • What was the best part of your Thanksgiving and why?
  • What advice would you give your younger self if given the opportunity?

As we enter the holiday season, may we often and intentionally take time to reflect on God’s blessings in our lives and the many ways he calls us to grow in a deeper relationship with him and with those around us.  With the humility and strength given us by the Holy Spirit, we endeavor to spend this final month of the year walking in step with Jesus!

HAVE A VOLUNTEER READ  1 Peter 5:5-10
  • What does true humility look like to you?
  • What do you find most challenging and most encouraging in this section of Scripture?

There is no better example of humility than Jesus.  He who most deserved a posture of pride clothed himself in complete humility.  He modeled for us what full reliance on God looks like.  He didn’t take the defensive and insecure posture that we are prone to taking.  He allowed the strength of God to be seen in and through him.  May we do likewise.

HAVE A VOLUNTEER READ  2 Corinthians 12:7-10
  • What has been a significant point of weakness for you at several points in your life?
  • How have you seen God’s power made perfect in your weakness when you have trusted him with it?

It is easy to shout the blessings of God when we can stand strong on the mountaintops of life.  However, God’s true glory is seen in us when HIS strength is seen in our lives… not ours.  May we be a people who brag on our amazing God regardless of our shortcomings, failures, and insecurities.  May we rely on him all the more when we fail and life deals us less than optimal scenarios.

APPLICATION
  • What is one thing you can try this week to embrace more humility of character in your daily life?
  • Where are you currently feeling weak and need God’s strength to show through?

PRAYER
Pray for God to show you what this verse looks like each day this week:

“He has shown you, O mortal, what is good.
And what does the Lord require of you?
To act justly and to love mercy
and to walk humbly with your God.”

Micah 6:8
